Terms of Service

Effective date: July 2, 2026

These terms govern your use of Beacon, a grant funder discovery service operated by Heath Johnson Consulting ("we," "us") at get-beacon.app. By creating an account, you agree to these terms.

The service

Beacon analyzes public IRS Form 990-PF filings and scores private foundations against your organization's profile to help you identify prospective funders. Beacon is a research tool: it does not guarantee funding, endorse foundations, or submit applications on your behalf.

Accounts and trials

• You must provide accurate account and organization information and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.
• New accounts receive a 14-day free trial, no credit card required. When the trial ends, access to the product requires an active paid subscription.

Billing

• Subscriptions are $49 per month, billed through Stripe, and renew automatically until canceled.
• You can cancel anytime from Settings → Billing; your access continues through the end of the paid period. We do not prorate or refund partial months, except where required by law.
• Prices may change with at least 30 days' notice.

Acceptable use

• One account per organization; do not share logins outside your organization.
• Do not scrape, bulk-export, resell, or redistribute the service's data or derived scores outside your organization's own fundraising work.
• Do not attempt to probe, disrupt, or access data that is not yours.

Data accuracy

Foundation profiles and match scores are computed from public IRS filings, which lag real-world activity and can contain errors at the source. Information in Beacon is provided "as is" for research purposes — verify details directly with a foundation before acting on them.

Intellectual property

The service, including its scoring methodology, software, and design, belongs to us. The data you enter about your organization belongs to you, and you grant us a license to process it to provide the service.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided without warranties of any kind, and our total liability for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Termination

You may stop using the service and cancel your subscription at any time from Settings → Billing. To close your account and delete your data, email us (see our Privacy Policy). We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (data accuracy, IP, liability) survive.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Dakota, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

Changes

We may update these terms; material changes will be noted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
